Bullhead Ranch Machine Shop works for RCC

That's a pretty fancy title for me going out to the shop! I was able to save a few bucks for the church over the weekend and me and the kids had some fun as well. The first thing you need to know is the lights we use every Sunday in church are both absolutely necessary and a constant pain in the rear! We must have lights to light up properly and get the image on the screen properly. On the other hand, we move them and putz with them and put them in different spots and put a different gel (colors for the lights) on them and then we set the red to 89% while the green is at 94% and the blue is 76%. There's a ton of work that goes into getting the lights right. One of the problems we continually have with them is the splash. That's when not only is the speaker lit, but additionally we have the light splashed on the screen which dims the image. So we work to aim them correctly, get narrow bulbs and all. One of the things we can do is get what are called barn doors for the lights that have the four movable doors on them to point the light where we want. They're expensive. I mean more than the light itself expensive! Since we don't need that level of control, a snoot would be appropriate for our needs. This is basically a tube to point the light at the one area we want. Looking at those, even the cheap ones like here are $27 and then we still need to get them delivered. So the shop to the rescue! With some sheet metal to work with, we shaped and tooled and welded and then put some sealant around the bottoms so light wouldn't leak out and we built snoots for the church that cost about the same amount as we'd pay for one except we built six of them! And we had fun doing it!
